Magosto, chestnut festival that unites entire generations
With the arrival of November, the chestnut becomes the protagonist and in many places the Magosto is celebrated.
It is believed that the magosto in Galicia has a direct link with the celebration of Samaín, on the night of October 31 to November 1, a pagan festival of Celtic origin that honored the end of the harvests and celebrated the arrival of a new annual cycle. Later, Christianization transformed this holiday into "All Saints' Day", November 1.
El Samaín, the party that replaced Halloween in Galicia.
Halloween left in the background one of the oldest parties known: Samaín. Although the truth is that this tradition is still celebrated in some territories. And you don't need to go far, because Galicia is one of them.
There are many curiosities surrounding this party. The druidic rituals is one of them. Druids were men of authority in the ancient Celtic and Gaulish peoples. They could work as priests, teachers or judges.
The ritual of decorating houses with pumpkins with scary faces is not something that brought Halloween. It already existed in Samaín, but, at that time, this vegetable was not cultivated in Galician orchards and, instead, turnips were used. These were emptied and burning coal was placed inside. It was intended to guide the souls of family members, but also to protect against evil spirits.
Over time, pumpkins appeared. The residents gave them the shape of a skull and placed a candle inside to keep the dead away from the home. Therefore, on Halloween it is typical to decorate houses with this food.

Title: Irma and Diña
Argument: through one of the most significant characters in the history of the castle of Soutomaior, Pedro Madruga, we will get to know the stories and adventures that made him one of the most relevant figures of the 15th century in Galicia, always from a family and very participatory point of view.
In addition, we will have the participation of Paio Gomes, loyal companion, who with his lute will set Pedro's wanderings to music with versed couplets that will bring his adventures to the audience in a fun way.
Paio Gomes, through time travel, will also musicalize the stories of other key figures in the castle in other eras such as María Vinyals.
As a counterpoint to this story, two characters will appear, the farmers Irma and Diña, who will tell the history of the town, the customs and ways of life of the Galicians on foot in the 15th century, and will participate in a crazy adventure with Pedro and Paio in the search of the truth and the discovery of history.
In this way, both parties will make known the history of the castle from two different points of view, always in a dynamic, educational, participative and familiar way, to show the importance of peasant women in the medieval era as the great forgotten of history.

This area, declared a Special Conservation Area and protected by the Natura 2000 Network, is located in the northern and interior area of the province of Pontevedra, on the border between the municipalities of Estrada, Silleda and Forcarei.
It is a great representation of the interior low mountain ranges of the province of Pontevedra, with different and valuable ecosystems such as brambles, wet meadows, bogs, low scrub, rocks, oak trees and the Sacra de Olives lagoon.
In the spring months, these different ecosystems are the ideal habitats to observe and listen to yellow and striped woodpeckers, larks, chat thrushes, blackbirds or migratory species from Africa, such as red woodpeckers, woodpeckers, cuckoos, bubela... .
Likewise, it is a magnificent place for birds of prey, such beautiful birds as the gray toad, the black-tailed godwit, the copper eagle, the beehive or the peregrine falcon, among others.

Guided tours of natural spaces are always a safe bet in terms of leisure activities. In these exceptional moments, the relationship between people and nature needs to be reformulated even more, and what better way to do it than through the "Therapeutic Forests" activity, where nature, exercise, culture, history and health are mixed.
The therapeutic forests are based on the therapy of Shinrin Yoku or 'forest bath', a technique originating in Japan and which consists of going into nature to relax the mind and reduce the level of tension. It must be a conscious experience, in which to open the five senses, breathing deeply and walking, while we connect with the environment at a healing rhythm.
This activity will take place in the province of Pontevedra, specifically in the halls of Lérez (Pontevedra), in the Monte Aloia Natural Park (Tui), in the Arco da Vella Natural Area (Bembrive, Vigo), in the Cabo Udra Natural Area (Bueu), on the Route da Pedra e da Auga (Meis), in the forests of Picaraña (Ponteareas), on the Verdugo River Blue Trail (Caldelas Bridge), on the Almofrei trail (Cerdedo-Cotobade) and in the Fraga de Catasós, adapted to the cultural and natural heritage of each municipality so that the therapy itself becomes an ecotourism resource adapted to each season of the year.
It is intended that visitors enjoy a therapeutic and enriching cultural experience.
The guided tours are intended for the general public, who must travel to the meeting place at the beginning of the route by their own means. Due to the special characteristics of the routes in which some type of dynamic related to the therapeutic forests will be carried out, the participants, both adults and children (with a responsible companion), must observe, at all times, the rules of silence and of respect to the group, the activity and the space, indicated by the guide.

Associations and businesses seek the best method to guarantee healthy air to users
Disinfection and regeneration based on ozone and destruction of pathogens through plasma are combined with CO2 and body temperature meters.
The progressive end of the restrictions begins to provide relief for associations and businesses in the city. Although many of them have long ago decided to guarantee the safety of users and customers, others are now striving to find the best method to offer healthy air and avoid contagion by aerosols inside establishments.Among those who are ahead of the curve when it comes to facing the problem is the Sárdoma neighborhood association, with 450 members and a pioneer in the neighborhood movement.
«We were the first association to acquire disinfection equipment. By indicating the square meters of the room, it calculates the time it has to work to activate the ozone and aerate.
explains the president of the entity,Eduardo Alonso Roman. A remote control with a key allows them to know what the environment is like.
«If it is below one you can enter the room and if it is above one, you have to continue cleaning. In addition, it has multiple uses, because we had termites in the library and they disappeared. "First it disinfects and then regenerates the air,"point.
The device converts oxygen into ozone with electricity and eliminates pathogens. "Unlike those that are simple timers and do not know if it reaches the necessary concentration, it includes a sensor to know if it is the right one and contains active carbon filters that eliminate the ozone once it finishes cleaning," explains Manuel. Rañal, technical director of Hermes Smart Control, a company he runs with his partner Xavier Barra and based in Porto do Molle. In other locations, such as the Juan Leyva Study Center, in Rosalía de Castro, they have opted for an air disinfection system through plasma (partially ionized gas), from the company Novaerus based in Vigo and A Coruña.
«It gives us security and thank God we have finished well. We teach high school and university students and although with the pandemic we have had to organize small groups, we wanted to make sure,” says the director, Juan Leyva. This same system is used by the Abril pharmacies in Vigo and Pontevedra, the NIDA Fertility and Assisted Reproduction Clinic, and the supermarkets at the Galuresa service stations.
«They are small portable devices, which introduce air from the environment, it passes as if it were through a type of bovine and the destruction of pathogens occurs. It is a medical device that is now used for all types of premises: lawyers, notaries, academies... Even if you wear a mask, it gives peace of mind," explains Miguel Álvarez, a spokesperson.
It clarifies that it destroys microorganisms, viruses, bacteria, yeasts and volatile compounds and that in spaces with odors, it eliminates them. In hospitality establishments, the alternatives to control the air are very varied. In some locations in Alameda they have opted to treat the air and surfaces using ultraviolet light, which eliminates not only the virus that causes covid, but other microorganisms. This solution is designed for closed spaces with little ventilation and a lot of accumulation of people. This is the case of changing rooms in sports facilities, public buildings or small establishments. At Marina Cíes Beach Club, located on Samil beach, in addition to ensuring indoor air quality, they have a device that controls the body temperature of clients, an option also used in some hotels.
The most widespread in the hospitality sector are CO2 meters like the one in the La Candela bar and restaurant, on Rosalía de Castro street. The Rodavigo company knows this well, having already sold almost half a thousand devices. Until now, the obligation to measure air only affected restaurants, but with the new measures adopted today, its use could be extended to the rest of the hospitality industry. In any case, it is the cheapest solution, since they can be found for 70 or 80 euros. They only indicate the amount of CO2 in the air. If it is below 750 it is good. What it doesn't do is disinfect.#the voice of Galicia

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MUSEUMS 2021
The Covid-19 crisis, spread throughout the world, has had serious repercussions in the cultural sector in the short and long term. However, it also served as a catalyst for crucial innovations that were already underway. In particular, a greater approach towards digitization and the creation of new forms of experience and dissemination, and the strengthening of the creative potential of culture as an engine of recovery and innovation in the post-Covid era.
With the theme "The future of museums: Recovering and reimagining", International Museum Day 2021 invites museums, their professionals and communities to create, imagine and share new value (co)creation practices, new business models for cultural institutions, and innovative solutions for today's social, economic and environmental challenges.
The activities will revolve around the exhibition “4 PROJECTS. Mónica Alonso, Rosendo Cid, Salvador and Juan Cidrás, Mar Vicente", recently opened in the rooms on the ground floor. The dialogue with the different spaces, which is the basis of this exhibition project, will be the driving axis of the tours and workshops on the work of each artist.
In line with the ICOM motto for this edition, it is about creating, imagining and sharing contemporary proposals based, in this case, on an architectural heritage such as the MARCO building itself and the spaces that make it up.
